The Writing and Publishing a Surgical Paper (WPSP) course, led by Professor Abe Fingerhut, an internationally recognized surgeon and senior scientific editor, offers an in-depth and practical learning experience for early-career and aspiring surgeons. The program focuses on the essential elements of scientific publishing, including the structure and composition of a manuscript, navigation of the peer-review process, and the principles of clarity, precision, and integrity in academic writing. Through this course, Professor Fingerhut provides participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to communicate their research effectively and contribute to the ongoing advancement of surgical science.
The course has been delivered locally for the past five years and has become an integral component of Surgical Specialist Training, with numerous participants subsequently being mentored, inspired, and successfully publishing their work in peer-reviewed journals. A particularly valued aspect of the program is the opportunity for participants to present their pre-publication research for expert critique by Prof Fingerhut and participants, transforming the course into not only an original educational experience but also a practical and constructive platform for developing high-quality academic manuscripts.
