The ALSGBI LapPass® Team travelled to the Maltese Islands on 7th and 8th November 2025 to deliver the second edition of the LapPass Course in Malta, marking another milestone in the collaboration between the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI) and local surgical trainees.
This highly practical, skills-based course continues to serve as a benchmark in laparoscopic training, providing participants with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate core technical competencies through the structured LapPass® assessment programme.
A total of 16 candidates successfully achieved all the requirements to complete the LapPass® passport, showcasing their commitment to surgical excellence and advancing their proficiency in minimally invasive techniques.
To strengthen local expertise and sustainability, five Maltese faculty members were appointed during this edition:
Rachel Abela, Jessica Schembri Higgans, Kim Pace, Mark Portelli, and Luke Borg.
Their involvement will ensure the continued growth and delivery of the LapPass® programme within Malta.
A special thanks goes to Drugsales Ltd, whose invaluable support in providing the necessary instrumentation and equipment made this course possible. Their contribution played a pivotal role in maintaining the high standards associated with LapPass® training.
This year marks a major milestone — LapPass® is celebrating 10 years of excellence in laparoscopic skills training, a decade dedicated to elevating surgical education and promoting high-quality, standardised training across the UK and beyond.
