Laparoscopic, Endoscopic and Robotic Surgeons of Malta (LERSM) is the national society that unites consultants, trainees and industry partners in a shared commitment to safer, smarter surgery. Through accredited training, collaborative research and a vibrant professional network, we accelerate innovation in the operating theatre and champion the highest standards of patient care across the islands.
Who We Are
LERSM is a multidisciplinary society of consultants, trainees, nurses, allied professionals and industry partners who share a passion for laparoscopic and flexible-endoscopic surgery. Founded in 2019, we now represent 90 + active members across every major specialty and hospital on the islands, as well as an expanding cohort of medical students poised to lead the next generation.

Train
Run hands-on cadaveric labs, simulator workshops and live-case webinars, all accredited for CPD.
Research
Award competitive grants, publish local data and present Maltese findings on international stages.
Network
Host quarterly symposia and an annual scientific meeting that connects our members with European thought-leaders and technology innovators.
Advocate
Work with hospital administrators and the Ministry of Health to secure equipment, theatre time and funding that keeps Maltese surgery globally competitive.
Support Careers
Provide structured mentorships, fellowship placements and a digital CPD tracker that simplify professional progression from intern to consultant.

How much is the annual fee and what does it include?
Your Advantages as a Member
As a LERSM member, you benefit from our partnership with the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) and Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI) gaining discounted course fees, and eligibility for travel and research grants. Attend regular educational sessions, participate in webinars, share your research, and vie for leadership positions within our society’s sub-committees.
Membership Details
- Student: 20 EUR per year – For undergraduate students with an interest in surgery
- Initiate: 85 EUR per year – For foundation doctors in the field of minimally invasive surgery
- Associate: 95 EUR per year – For BST and HST trainees in relevant surgical fields
- Member: 120 EUR per year – For certified practitioners in minimally invasive surgery

How do I apply for membership?
You can apply through the website. Click on the “About” section where you can click on the “Become a Member” link.
Can non-members attend events?
Non-members can attend courses and register to most events. However as a member you will get discounts on courses and events organised by LERSM.
Are LERSM events accredited for CPD/CME points?
Yes, our courses and events get CME accreditation.
What kinds of resources are in the Members Area?
The members area is aimed at giving our members access to course notes, instruction videos and presentations.
